How To Discover The Top Work from Home Ideas for 2008

Introduction

It seems more and more people than ever are wanting to work from home these days. I think the reasons why are pretty obvious, so who wouldn't want to work from home?

However, deciding that you want to work from home is the easy part, the difficult part is deciphering what on earth you can do to earn money from your home?

There are some employers that do actually employ people specifically to carry out employment from their home, but I think you will find that these jobs are very few and far between.

So, how do you find out the best ideas for the coming year?

Identifying Upcoming Trends

Knowing and realizing hot upcoming trends can help you decide what type of home based business to start. By taking note of what is happening around you, recognizing a demand for a particular service or product, then offering the supply could mean big business for you in 2008.

You just need to be alert to realize what is happening in the world today and the different shifts and trends of current affairs.

For example, because more and more people are becoming self-employed either as an individual working from home or as a small business, do you think that this type of business person may need some help with their business administration? They may need help with book-keeping, or require some kind of typing or secretarial help. Could you help a self-employed person with their daily administration?

This is the type of 'mind-frame' you need to employ. You need to keep asking yourself the questions:-

"What service is becoming popular and how can I help within this service sector?"

"Can I either offer the service for the demand in question, or can I help the self-employed people offering the service?"

"If I can offer the same type of service as a lot of my competitors, how can I make it unique, better and different - have my own 'twist' on it?"

"Can I identify a demand where I can offer a service or product that not many people have thought of yet?"

Get the idea? Always be alert and either find a service what you already know and excel in and offer a unique 'twist' to it, or try and identify an upcoming demand and offer the supply with your own unique and 'first-in-line' service.

To Franchise or Not to Franchise?

This is the question! You could love the idea or hate the idea. It really depends upon each individual.

Franchise home businesses are always another option. But you are probably aware that they can be extremely expensive to buy into.

Initial franchise fees for the majority of businesses tend to be around $10,000-$25,000. It's then common to pay between 5%-8% of your gross sales to your franchisors as a monthly management fee. This means that if you have a 15% profit margin, you will have to give them one-third to over one-half of your profits each and every month - forever. You never stop paying for a franchise.

For some people the franchise fees alone might put them off from buying into a franchise. For other people it may be the fact that they won't totally be in control of their own business. There are always strict rules and regulations you have to follow as a franchisee and if you don't adhere to these rules, then you could literally have your business taken away from you. You will have to sign a fairly thick agreement that will have been drawn up by a Solicitor so you won't be able to get away by not following the franchisor guidelines.

However, on the other hand some people literally do need to be taken by the hand when starting up a new business. They need to be shown a step-by-step account of what they should and should not do. Some people also need the comfort of knowing that there is always someone at hand to ask any questions to on a daily or weekly basis. Therefore in instances like this, a franchise would be the preferred option than to going it alone.

So really it depends on each individual and what type of business-person you are or want to be for you to decide if a franchise is right for you.

Tip: You could browse through franchise businesses on the Internet as a means to help you come up with ideas for your own home business that you might not have already though of!
